Today marks two weeks that I've been in Spain and it's finally feeling real. I am getting used to the Spanish customs and culture and I pretty much know my way around now. I feel much more comfortable, but with that comes a weird settling feeling that I'm actually here for a while. They talk about highs and lows of being abroad and it's definitely true that about two weeks in the excitement settles and reality sinks in. However, I sat down with friends and planned out my trips for the rest of the semester. I have so much going on so I feel like from here on out the weeks will fly by. I booked a weekend trip to Morocco and to Ibiza. I can't wait to visit as many places as possible!
I have had an overwhelming amount of work here. Since my classes are in Spanish, I sort of have to teach myself the grammar lessons. Understanding grammar has always been difficult for me but I hope I am getting the hang of it! First test is Thursday!!
On Thursday I went to a preschool to volunteer. I am thinking about doing it every week unless I can get a job as a teachers assistant in a special ed classroom nearby (either one would look incredible on my resume!!). I also begin tutoring on Tuesday. I am teaching two boys, 8 and 12, English for one hour every Tuesday for about 15 euro which is great!! I have a few more things in the works also, which I will update about as soon as I know.
This weekend was beautiful and Friday I went to the beach. Although it was windy almost everyone from the program was there playing music, drinking wine, having a volleyball tournament and just laying out. it was so great. The rest of the weekend was pretty relaxed. I planned my trips, and did homework.
Today I had a meeting with my "intercambio" which is a Spanish student from my university who wants to learn better English, and in turn helps me with my Spanish. I was set up with him by USAC, and was nervous at first. I thought it would be so awkward so I brought my roommate Erika. The guy ended up being so incredibly nice and it was actually a great time. He is super helpful and I think that will definitely rapidly improve my Spanish. I invited him to come on a wine tour we planned on Wednesday which should be fun!
I absolutely love Alicante, and am so glad I chose to study abroad with USAC. This program goes above and beyond. I had never heard of it before, and I totally just stumbled upon it, and I am so thankful I did. The director of the program takes the time to get to know every single student individually and helps them get the most out of their experience here. I have been so impressed since day one, and they are always blowing my mind with all of the amazing things they offer us between workshops, fitness classes, teaching opportunities, volunteering opportunities, day trips, restaurants to visit, etc. And if you don't find something you like, they will do their best to find it for you. I truly recommend anyone going abroad to go through USAC!
My pictures this week are all pretty random. But enjoy!! :)
